JACKSON, MS – Itawamba Community College dropped game two of their MACJC opening doubleheader in heartbreaking fashion as Hinds Community College rallied to pick up the 4-3 win and the sweep.
The Indians (12-6, 0-2 MACJC) took an early lead in game two as Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) scored on a Tyreque Reed (Houlka) sacrifice fly in the second inning. Rowton, who finished 3-4 with an RBI, then extended the Indians lead to 2-0 in the fourth with a RBI single to right.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Eagles (9-7, 2-0 MACJC) tied the contest scoring two runs in an unconventional manner. The Eagles first run came on a steal attempt to second base where the throw got away from the Indians. A few pitches later, the Eagle tied the game on a passed ball.
The Indians would quickly regained the lead in the fifth as Hagan Box (French Camp) ripped a single to left that scored Ty Wheeler (Tupelo), who lead off the inning with a single.
After taking the lead, Blake Bennett (Memphis, TN) shut down the Eagles in the fifth, but a passed ball in the sixth tied the game at 3-3 with two out. The Eagles plated the game-winner on a single to right to pick up the 4-3 win and the sweep.
The Indians are off this week for Spring Break but jump back into conference play Saturday, March 19 when they host Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College doubleheader. First pitch at Roy Cresap Field is set for 2:00 pm.
