Baseball falls to Hinds in conference opener, 17-6

JACKSON, MS – Itawamba Community College baseball opened MACJC play on the road Sunday and saw game one slip away as Hinds Community College scored 12 unanswered runs to pick up the 17-6 win in eight innings.
In a game that was more competitive than the final score, the Indians (12-5, 0-1 MACJC) came out swinging driving in six runs on 12 hits in the first four innings to hold a 6-5 lead after a Timothy Rowe (Hernando) solo home run in the fourth.
The Eagles (8-7, 1-0 MACJC) answered the home run to with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead for the final time. Over the next four innings, the Eagles tacked on eight runs to their lead, capped off by a game-ending two run home run in the bottom of the eight.
Early in the contest, the Indians and Eagles were locked in a back-and-forth offensive battle as both starting pitchers were knocked out of the game early. Bryan Malone (Belmont) and Rowe both went 3-4 to lead the Indians early offensive charge.
Malone picked up two RBI in the game and Rowe finished a triple shy of the cycle in the 17-6 eight inning loss.
