FULTON, MS – In game two of Itawamba Community College baseball's last non-conference doubleheader, a big fourth inning powered them to a 9-2 win to complete the sweep of Southwest Tennessee Community College.
The Indians (12-4) took an early one run lead when Russ Payne (Fulton) drove in Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) on a ground out in the first inning. However, the lead was short lived as the Saluqis (2-20) answered with two runs in the top of the second on a double by Daren Ortiz.
After trailing 2-1 for an inning and a half, the Indians regained the lead by plating six runs on four hits, an error and a walk. Run scoring doubles by Timothy Rowe (Hernando) and Hagan Box (French Camp) gave the Indians a one run lead, 3-2, but a two RBI single by Ben Seay (Mooreville) seemed to open the flood gates.
Dalton Hudspeth (Louisville) would reach on an error in the following at bat that allowed Box to score. Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) capped off the inning with his two run scoring single.
Tyreque Reed (Houlka) picked up his second home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth on a towering shot to left field. Box followed the home run with a single and then made his way around the bases by stealing second and reaching third and home on wild pitches.
The Indians big fourth inning propelled them to the 9-2 game two win and allowed JT Salters (Bay Minette, AL) to pick up the victory and improve to 3-0 this season.
Reed went 2-3 in game two with a double and a home run.
The Indians will open conference play on the road Saturday March 12 against Hinds Community College. First pitch of the twin bill is set for 2:00 p.m.
