FULTON, MS – After a tough weekend on the road the Itawamba Community College baseball program bounced back with a big 10-3 game one win over Southwest Tennessee Community College.
The Indians (11-4) came out swinging in game one against the visiting Saluqis, scoring six runs over the first three innings, four in the second inning alone.
Ty Wheeler (Tupelo) opened the scoring in the contest with a single in the opening frame that scored Delvin Zinn (Pontotoc), who led off the game with a single.
In the second innings, four Indians crossed the plate highlighted by a Keith Stepter (Hernando) double that scored Hagan Box (French Camp) and a run scoring single by Zinn, who finished the game 3-4.
Box, who finished 2-4 with 2 RBI, would tack on another run for the Indians in the third with a double of his own.
The Indians extended their lead further in the fourth as they pushed across four more runs, started by a Timothy Rowe (Hernando) double that scored Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) and Zinn.
While the offense was firing on all cylinders, Nick Burns (Mantachie) was handling the Saluqi lineup. In five innings of work, Burns allowed only two hits, two walks. The sophomore right hander's only blemish was a solo home run in the third, a mistake he answered with his only strikeout of the contest.
The Saluqis (2-19) were able to drive in two run in the final inning, but the Indians picked up the 10-3 game one win.
Burns improves to 3-0 this season.
