FULTON, MS – After having to fight from behind in game one, Itawamba Community College baseball scored early and often to pick up the 13-0 run-rule game two victory and sweep of Motlow State (TN).
The Indians (2-0) plated two runs in the opening frame and five in the second to take an early lead over the visiting Bucks.
Timothy Rowe (Hernando) opened the scoring with a base hit on a hit-and-run and the Indians plated their second run of the inning when Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) crossed the plate during a double play.
Rowe struck again in the second inning as he ripped a two run scoring double and later scored on a wild pitch, to account for three of the innings' five runs. Delvin Zinn (Pontotoc), who finished 3-4, ripped a bases loaded RBI single to left field to start the Indians five run second.
While the Indian offense was firing on all cylinders, Blake Bennett (Memphis, TN) was just as hot on the mound. The redshirt freshman right hander threw four shut out innings, striking out five, walking two and allowed only one hit to pick up his first collegiate win.
After the Indians, poured on six more runs in the third and fourth the run-rule into effect. Barnes took over on the mound wasted little time in ending the game as he sat down Motlow State in order to give ICC the 13-0 win and the sweep.
The Indians return to Cresap Field Tuesday when they host Calhoun Community College for a doubleheader. First pitch of the twin bill is set for 1:00 p.m in Futlon.
