
Big inning gives Indians win over Holmes, 6-3

FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College baseball squad rallied in the third inning to pick up the game two victory over Holmes Community College, 6-3.
The Indians (17-17, 13-13 MACJC) plated four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead for good in the back-and-forth affair highlighted by a two run homer by Timothy Rowe (Hernando).
Sophomore Tanner Poole (Amory) started the rally with a double and Russ Johnson (Hatley) drove him in with a single to left. Seth Young (Olive Branch) followed with a double to center and Hayden Williams (Amory) plated Johnson with a sacrifice fly that tied the contest at three.
With one on and not outs Rowe stepped up and smashed his homerun to right field to give the Indians a two run advantage 5-3.
The Indians added an insurance run in the fourth when Poole, who finished 3-for-4 with two extra base hits, scored on a ground ball in the infield.
Freshman pitcher Nick Burns (Manatchie) took advantage of the lead and shut down the Bulldogs over the final four frames allowing only two hits. Burns went the distance in the contest allowing three runs on six hits while striking out 10 to pick up his third win of the season.
The Indians will wrap up the regular season Saturday as they host Copiah-Lincoln Community College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m., but the Indians will honor their sophomores beginning at 1:40 p.m.
