CLARKSDALE, MS – Gable Butler's three RBI performance propelled the Itawamba Community College Indians to a 4-2 extra inning win and earn a split with Coahoma Community College on Tuesday.
The sophomore Iuka native tied the contest on a two out single in the sixth and put the Indians up in the eighth with a two run scoring single to right field. Butler finished 2-for-4 in game two.
The Indians (13-9, 7-7 MACJC) trailed 2-0 after five innings and a brief rain delay, but the rain washed the dust off the bats and they rallied to tie the game in the sixth.
With the bases loaded and no outs, Hayden Williams (Amory) drove in the Indians first run of the game on a sacrifice fly to score Tanner Poole (Amory), who led off the frame with a bunt base hit. After a fly ball that wasn't deep enough to score another run, Butler ripped a single to left to score Brayden Owen (Tupelo) from third and tie the contest at 2.
The game remained deadlocked, forcing another extra inning affair. Timothy Rowe (Hernando), Seth Young (Olive Branch) and Williams loaded the bases with one out for the Indians in to the top of the eighth on two singles and Young being hit by a pitch.
Butler the hit a hard ground ball past the second baseman to score Rowe and Williams and give the Indians a two run advantage. Coahoma was unable to have an answer in the bottom half of the inning as Trenton Stringer (Stringer) set them down in order to give the Indians the victory.
The Indians season continues with another road test as they travel to Ellisville on Friday for a conference showdown with Jones County Junior College. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
