
Indians benefit from two big innings to complete sweep of Pearl River

FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College Indians plated nine runs over two innings to defeat Pearl River Community College 10-4 in game two and pick up their fifth consecutive win.
The Indians (12-8, 6-6 MACJC) trailed the Wildcats after two frames, but then batted around in the fourth and fifth innings to gain the lead.
Back-to-back singles by Hayden Williams (Amory) and Seth Young (Olive Branch), followed by Gable Butler (Iuka) reaching on an error, loaded the bases for the Indians in the bottom of the fourth. The Indians quickly took advantage of the situation as Cody Young (Collierville, TN) drew a walk to tie the game at two, and Russ Johnson (Hatley), who went 3-for-3, ripped a double down the first base line to put the tribe in control.
Sophomore Tanner Poole (Amory) drove in the final run of the fourth on a sacrifice fly, but Poole drove in two more runs in the following inning on a single up the middle. Drake Rowton (Marion, AR) and Brayden Owen (Tupelo) added to the Indians lead picking up RBIs.
The Indians sent 18 batters to the plate over the two frames and picked up nine hits propelling them to the game two victory.
Freshman Nick Burns (Mantachie) picked up his second win of the week and season to improve to 2-1.
With only eight conference dates remaining, the Indians will continue their push for the playoffs Tuesday as they travel to Clarksdale doubleheader with Coahoma Community College. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon.
