FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College baseball coach Rick Collier announced sophomore pitcher Landon Brister and sophomore centerfielder Jeremy Ferguson signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball for William Carey University on Tuesday.
"I'm proud for both these guys," said Collier. "These are two players that will make an immediate impact and help improve the team with their talent and leadership. William Carey got two big steals today by adding guys of this caliber to their roster."
Brister (Houston HS) finished last season with a 6-1 record and 4.94 ERA with one save and 52 strike outs in 51 innings of work.
"Landon was a bulldog on the mound for us," said Collier. "He was the guy that we knew we could count on as a starter or coming in to close out a game. He is going to really be an asset to their pitching staff both as a pitcher and as a battle-tested leader."
Ferguson (North Pontotoc HS) batted .325 with a .459 on-base percentage, five doubles, two triples, 28 runs, 13 RBI and eight steals in 42 games.
"Jeremy will add a lot of speed and a very solid bat to William Carey's lineup," Collier said. "He can cover a lot of ground in the outfield and will be a constant threat to steal when he's on the bases. At the plate, he is comfortable in anywhere in the lineup whether it's using his speed as a lead-off man or further down the lineup driving guys in with his power."
Brister and Ferguson will join former Indian third baseman Chris Hannig (Tuscaloosa, AL), who signed with the Crusaders in July.
