
Burton, Hester earn MACJC soccer honors

FULTON, MS – The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) announced its weekly women's soccer awards on Tuesday and freshman Hope Burton and sophomore Kate Hester swept the conference awards.
Burton (Caledonia) was named MACJC Player of the Week after scoring two goals and adding two assists to help ICC go 2-1 last week, including the Lady Indians' first win of the season over Covenant College (GA).
Burton scored the first goal of the match against Covenant and added to assists in the 7-0 road victory over Covenant. She scored in the second overtime period against Gulf Coast to give the Lady Indians the 2-1 victory.
Hester (Pontotoc) earned MACJC Keeper of the Week after going 1-1 last week and recording 20 saves on 21 shots of goals in 135 minutes in net.
Hester made a career-high 15 saves to tie a program record for most saves in the Lady Indians' 1-0 loss to defending MACJC and NJCAA Region 23 champion Pearl River on Sunday. Earlier in the week, she made five saves in a 7-0 win at Covenant College.
Burton and Hester are eligible for National Player of the Week honors.
The Lady Indians (2-6-0, 1-4-0 MACJC North) will be joined by the Indians as they travel to Southwest Mississippi Community College for a pair of non-division matches on Friday.
