FULTON, MS -- The Lady Indians missed a pair of opportunities in regulation and the first overtime to finish a rainy Tuesday in Fulton with a 2-2 double overtime tie with Holmes Community College.
Despite the pouring rain, Annalee Jaggars (Saltillo) set up Alyssa Kelley (Saltillo) for the Lady Indians' first goal of the day in the early stages of the match.
"We got the quick start we were hoping to get," said ICC assistant Coach Cody Carson. "I was worried the rain may have made the girl lose some of their intensity, but it actually kind of worked in our favor with them coming out loose and ready to play."
Holmes answered with a goal midway through the first half before Miranda Chapman (Saltillo) found the back of the net off an assist from Kelley before the end of the half.
"That was a big goal for us," commented Carson. "We missed a couple of opportunities that we probably should have taken advantage and it seemed to get to us a little more than it should have, but the goal gave us some momentum going into halftime."
Up 2-1, the Lady Bulldogs rallied to tie the match and would eventually force overtime as neither team could find the tie-breaking goal in regulation.
The Lady Indians dominated the first overtime period, but once again failed to take advantage of scoring opportunities.
"We've got to learn to finish," Carson said. "We had two or three chances that we should have scored on, but hesitated on taking the shot letting the keeper and the defense make the shots more difficult than they should have been."
Holmes had two chances to win the match in the second overtime, but keeper Emily Munn (Pontotoc) made a pair of saves to force the game to end in a 2-2 tie.
"Emily played really big for us today," commented Carson. "She spent over 100 minutes in net for us and that's asking a lot of anyone to make the type of plays she made late in the game."
The Lady Indians will return to action against East Central Community College on Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the ICC Soccer Complex.
