FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College soccer teams open the 2012 season with their traditional two-day coast swing this Friday and Saturday against Pearl River Community College and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
"The players are excited to finally get the season started," said ICC soccer coach Mike Sullivan. "They have been working hard since day one to get ready for the season and hopefully all the hard work and effort they have put in will pay off with some wins to start the season."
The Lady Indians (0-0, 0-0 MACJC North) will open against Pearl River at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and will take on Gulf Coast Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
"This will be a tough test for both squads," said Sullivan. "Both Pearl River and Gulf Coast have a legitimate shot at not only winning the South Division, but also this year's state championship.
The Indians (0-0, 0-0 MACJC North) look to building on last year's 10-6-2 record and Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Tournament semifinal appearance when they take on Pearl River Friday night at 7:00 and Gulf Coast at 1:00 Saturday afternoon.
"These matches will be good measuring sticks on where we are and where we need to be when it comes to working to get better throughout the rest of the season," Sullivan said.
ICC will host Union University in the season home opener on August 28 with the Lady Indians starting at 2:00 p.m. and the Indians scheduled to follow at 4:00 p.m. at the ICC Soccer Complex on the Fulton campus.
