FULTON, MS -- Eight home matches highlight the 2012 Itawamba Community College soccer schedule released today by head coach Mike Sullivan.
For the fourth straight year, the regular season will kick off with a two-day weekend trip to the coast as the Lady Indians and Indians take on Pearl River and Gulf Coast on August 24th and August 25th.
"Our men really want to build off last year's second place finish in the north and get the number one seed this year," said Sullivan, who is the head coach of both programs. "Our ladies want to get back to the playoffs this year after making it the previous four seasons and we'll find out after that first weekend where we need to improve for both of our teams if we want to compete for state titles."
After the weekend road trip to the coast, ICC will then battle a pair of NAIA schools, Union University (home) and Bethel University (road) with perennial power Wallace State (AL) next in line for a men's only matchup.
"Our guys will definitely be tested in the opening five-game stretch," added Sullivan, who will again be assisted this year by former Amory HS and ICC soccer standout, Cody Carson. "We will find out if our recruiting class is as strong as we think it is."
The red and blue will open North Division play on September 7th as they travel to Holmes. Both programs will host Hinds in their division home opener on September 11.
"Our ladies get a much deserved week-long break in between the Bethel and Holmes matchups," said Sullivan. "We certainly hope to steal a win from one of the NAIA schools and then get off to a winning start in the north."
A first-ever ICC Alumni game is set for August 11.
