
FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College's Indians softball team has fallen to No. 25 in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Softball Top 25 rankings, according to an announcement on Monday.
The Indians, who were ranked at No. 21 last week, suffered a minor setback after dropping Tuesday's road doubleheader against then-No. 12 Northeast, losing 2-1 in game one and 7-1 in game two. In Friday's doubleheader against No. 4 Co-Lin, ICC lost 2-1 in game one (10 innings) and dropped game two in a 10-0 run-rule loss.
Led by first-year head coach Carson Owens, the Indians currently have a 21-12 overall record and are 6-8 in MACCC play.
Maddie Porter (Ocean Springs) leads ICC with a .376 batting average followed by AB Marlar (Kossuth) with .372 and Taylar Shands (Jackson, Tenn.), .330. Currently, other team leaders include Shands with nine home runs; and Marlar with 31 runs batted in. Shands has 25 RBI and Ella Duhon (Madison), 23.
The Indians will be back in action on Wednesday, April 2, for a doubleheader against Coahoma for Faculty Appreciation Day starting at 2 p.m. at Andy Kirk Field.
