FULTON, MS – Itawamba Community College's Carleigh Mills has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her softball career at the University of West Alabama.
"I'm very excited to be able to continue my softball career and education at West Alabama," said Mills. "It's a dream come true."
The Corinth native had a stellar sophomore season finishing with a 2.29 ERA while striking out 110 in 155.2 innings pitched and a 19-9 record. Over her two years at ICC, Mills won a program record 34 games and set the program record for single season wins at 19.
"Carleigh has been a work horse for us," said ICC Head Coach Andy Kirk. "She's our career and season wins leader and has thrown a ton of innings for us, pitched all the big games and it's a tremendous honor for us to have her moving on to West Alabama."
In her freshman campaign, Mills finished with a 1.74 ERA while striking out 94 in 125 innings pitched and a 15-4 record.
During her two years in the red and blue, the right hander threw 10 complete games where she didn't allow an earned run and threw six of more innings in 26 of her appearances.
"I think her best softball is still in front of her," said Kirk. "As successful as she's been here, I believe West Alabama is going to see better things out of her."
Mills earned Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) All-State First Team honor and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) South All-Region for her impressive sophomore season.
"I've been blessed to have some great teammates and coaches the last two years," said Mills. "They have all helped me so much and I can't be thankful enough for them."
Mills was part of a sophomore class that left a mark on the program by winning a total of 78 games, most ever by a class, and set and tied the program's single season win mark with 39 wins each season.
