FULTON, MS – The No. 12 Itawamba Community College softball team racked up 20 hits in game one of their doubleheader with Holmes Community College on their way to an 18-2 run-rule victory in five innings Wednesday.
The Indians (34-8, 19-6 MACJC) didn't have to wait for their bats to get hot as they picked up six hits, five of which were in order, in the opening frame that resulted in four runs. Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) and Addie Thompson (Hamilton) both hit runs scoring doubles while Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) and Bree Thompson (Water Valley) drove in runs with singles.
Hollenhead led off the third with a bang as she crushed a solo home run and Lane Kennedy (Smithville) followed suit later in the inning with a two run blast.
Leading 10-1, the Indians added to their lead in the fourth by sending 13 batters to the plate that pushed across eight runs.
After the dust had settled in the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs were able to push across a run in the fifth, but the Indians cruised the 18-2 run-rule win.
Hollenhead finished the game 4-for-4 with two RBI and Kennedy was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
The offensive explosion allowed sophomore pitcher Katlin McDuffy (Iuka) to pick up the win and improve to 14-3 this season.
