CLARKSDALE, MS – ICC scored 16 runs on 18 hits, highlighted by a six-run third inning, as the 10th ranked Indians defeated Coahoma Community College, 16-5, in five innings the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader in Clarksdale.
Sophomore Cassidy Hardy (Gordo, AL) earned the win in three innings of work before being replaced in the circle by freshman Taylor Cresap (Fulton). Hardy allowed just one hit while striking out three to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Coahoma (0-19, 0-11 MACJC) kept the Indians' bat quiet in the first two innings before ICC (24-4, 9-2 MACJC) woke up to push across six runs in the top of the third inning to take a commanding 10-0 lead.
Taylor Thornton (Carrollton), Sheneria Tyes (Baldwyn), Alex Brown (Pontotoc) and Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) drove in eight of the Indians' 10 runs in the third.
Leading 12-3 going into the top of the fifth inning, freshman Addie Thompson (Hamilton) took advantage of an error by the Tigers to race home after smashing a triple to start the inning.
Bre Harford (Southaven), Mary Kansas Sullivan (Houston), Thornton and Brown continued the hit parade with back-to-back-to-back-to-back doubles to extend the Indians' lead to 16-3 heading to the bottom half of the inning.
Coahoma scored a pair of runs in the fifth but the lead was too much to overcome as ICC picked up the 16-5 win in five innings.
Harford and Bradley led the Indians with three hits each. Bradley added five RBI with Brown chipping four runs batted in.
Six of the Indians' 18 hits went for extra bases.
