DECATUR, AL – The Itawamba Community College softball team opened the month of March in the middle of a 10 game road stretch of the schedule and crossed state lines to take game one from Calhoun Community College (AL), 5-1, Wednesday.
After two scoreless innings, the Indians (14-2) plated three runs to open the third on a run scoring by Taylor Thornton (Carrollton) and a big double by Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) that drove in a pair of runs.
Hollenhead, who went 2-4 with 3 RBI, extended the lead in the following inning with a solo home run, and Bree Thompson (Water Valley) scored during a run down in the sixth to give the Indians a 5-0 advantage headed into the final frame.
The Lady Warhawks were held scoreless through six innings by Katlin McDuffy (Iuka) and Carleigh Mills (Corinth), but managed to push a run across in the seventh. However, Mills stifled any chances of a rally picking up the third out on the next batter to give the Indians the 5-1 game one victory.
McDuffy earned the win from the circle and improves to 6-0 this season.
