FULTON, MS - The ICC softball team closed out its Round Robin with a 9-0 win over Gadsden State (AL) Community College with its fifth-straight run-rule victory on Saturday.
After taking a 2-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the second, freshman third baseman Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) smashed a three-run home run deep into the Fulton night to give the Indians a 5-0 lead after three innings of play.
The Indians (6-2) added three more runs in the fourth when Sheneria Tyes (Baldwyn) singled and scored on a two-out single by Mary Kansas Sullivan (Houston). Taylor Thornton (Carrollton), running for Sullivan, scored on a double off the fence by Alex Brown (Pontotoc).
Brown would tack on an insurance run when she scored on a single by Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus).
Carleigh Mills (Kossuth) replaced Katlin McDuffy (Iuka) in the fourth and made quick work of the Cardinal batters.
Taylor Blevins (Columbus) ripped a double off the glove of the third baseman and scored on a single by Tyes to give the Indians the 9-0 win after Mills got a three-up, three-down bottom of the fifth inning.
McDuffy moved to 2-0 after throwing three innings of scoreless softball and giving up two hits and a walk.
Bradley and Tyes continued to swing a hot bat with the duo of sophomores going 2-for-3 in the second game of the day.
ICC will travel to Jackson State (TN) Community College on Tuesday.
