
Softball sweeps Calhoun with 8-0 win in Game 2

FULTON, MS – ICC completed its sweep of the Calhoun (AL) Community College Warhawks on Thursday in six innings with an 8-0 Game 2 victory.
ICC (4-2) took a 2-0 lead before hanging a four spot on the board in the third to take a commanding 6-0 lead through the first three innings of play.
Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) continued to swing a hot bat and drove in Taylor Blevins (Columbus) to give the Indians a 1-0 lead before Sheneria Tyes (Baldwyn) smashed a solo shot to go up 2-0 after two complete.
Blevins showcased her speed by stealing home to put ICC up 3-0 in the third. Hollenhead ripped her second double of the game to score Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) before scoring on a passed ball. Bree Thompson (Water Valley) singled to score Addie Thompson (Hamilton) before the Warhawks could get out of the inning.
Alex Brown (Pontotoc) doubled to score Blevins and Katrina Wilson (Oxford) drew a bases loaded walk to invoke the eight-run mercy rule in the bottom of the sixth to complete the sweep of Calhoun with an 8-0 victory.
Hollenhead went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and a run scored. Taylor Thornton (Carrollton) went 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI along with Brown going to 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI. As a team, ICC had 11 hits in the victory.
Blevins and Thornton each had two steals in the game.
Carleigh Mills (Kossuth) picked up the victory giving up one hit and one walk while striking out five in four innings of work. Grayson Wells (Greenwood) threw one inning of hitless softball before Taylor Cresap (Fulton) gave up one hit and a walk before closing the door on the Warhawks.
Next up for the Indians will be its own Round Robin on Saturday. Hinds Community College and Gadsden State (AL) Community College will open the three-game day at noon with the Indians taking on Hinds at 2:00 p.m. and Gadsden State at 4:00 p.m.
