
Softball takes Game 1 over Calhoun, 9-1

FULTON, MS – The softball team defeated Calhoun (AL) Community College in its first home game of the 2016 season on Thursday.
ICC (3-2) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) drove in Alex Brown (Pontotoc) and later scored on a bases loaded walk issued to Addie Thompson (Hamilton).
Calhoun got a run back in the top of the fourth but the Indians answered with a four runs to pull ahead 6-1 in the bottom half of the inning.
Lane Kennedy (Smithville) drove in Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs) and later scored on a double by Brown. Brown came around after trading places with Bradley and scored on a double by Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston).
Thompson added an insurance run with the first home run of the season for the Indians in the fifth before plating Taylor Thornton (Carrollton) and Hollenhead to give the Indians the 9-1 victory in six innings.
ICC strung together 12 hits with five going for doubles and a home run. Hollenhead led the way with a 3-for-4 performance with two doubles, RBI, run scored and a stolen base. Thompson had a season-high four RBI.
Katlin McDuffy (Iuka) gave up one unearned run on one hit with two strikeouts and no walks in six innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the season.
