MERIDIAN, MS – A big eighth inning gives Shelton State Community College an extra inning victory over the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians on Saturday.
The Lady Indians (7-4) rallied to force extra innings in the nightcap of the Rush Tournament but Shelton State's five runs in the eighth gave them the 8-3 victory.
Freshman Kaitlin Bradley (New Hope) two run scoring single in the fifth cut Shelton State's lead down to 3-2 and Laken Shankle (Bruce) tied the contest in the sixth with an RBI double.
With the game knotted at three, neither squad was able to find a way to push across the game winner until the top of the eighth when Shelton State plated five runs to pick up the win.
The Lady Indians will begin defending their MACJC North Division title next Saturday when they open division play on the road against the rival Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers.
