POPLARVILLE, MS – In their first game of the Pearl River Community College Tournament, the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians battled No. 2 Lousiana State University-Eunice.
The Lady Indians (5-2) held their own against the nationally ranked Lady Bengals, but a six-run third inning put LSU-Eunice up for good to pick up the 8-2 victory.
Haley Moore (Booneville) and Katelynn Downey (Liberty, MO) both picked up two hits in the contest and Moore's RBI in the top of the third pulled the Lady Indians within one. However, the Lady Bengals answered with six run in the bottom of the frame to take an 8-1 lead.
Cara Hopper (Caledonia) picked up an RBI in the fourth, but the Lady Indians were unable to put together a comeback and fell to the defending NJCAA National Champions.
The Lady Indians will play two more games in the tournament against Faulkner State Community College (AL) and Pearl River.
