SENATOBIA, MS – Game two of the doubleheader needed ten innings to settle to score between the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians and Northwest Mississippi Community College Lady Rangers.
The Lady Indians (17-7, 9-2 MACJC North) rallied to tie the game and take the lead, but a walk off single gave the Lady Ranges the 3-2 win.
It was a pitcher's duel from the get go with Northwest's Kiley Dunagan and freshman Cassidy Hardy (Gordo, AL), who threw a perfect game on Tuesday, but neither would get a decision in extra inning affair.
The Lady Rangers took an early lead on a fielding error, but in the sixth, the Lady Indians tied it up on a Laken Shankle (Bruce) single to right field that scored Maddy Lukens (Saltillo), who led off the frame with a single.
With the game tied at 1, Cara Hopper (Caledonia) took over in the circle for Hardy, who threw four innings, allowing only three hits and one run. Hopper got into a jam in the bottom of the sixth as the Lady Rangers had the bases loaded with one out, but she struck out the next two batters to emerge unscathed.
Neither Hopper nor Dunagan, who allowed two runs, on six hits while striking out 10 in nine and third innings of work, would give an inch over the next few frames until Katrina Wilson (Oxford) hit a run scoring seeing eye single in the tenth to give the Lady Indians a 2-1 lead.
In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Rangers would tie the game on a one out single and then pick up the 3-2 victory in walk off fashion on a run scoring single by Olivia Owen.
Hopper, who has a 1.62 ERA, falls to 1-4 this season and Northwest's Micalah Beall picked up the win to improve to 2-0.
The Lady Indians will host the rival Northeast Mississippi Community College Lady Tigers Friday for a division doubleheader. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
