FULTON, MS – Freshman pitcher Cassidy Hardy (Gordo, AL) faced 15 batters and sat them down in order to help the Lady Indians pick up a 25-0 five-inning win over Coahoma Community College on Tuesday.
Hardy (5-2) struck out three of the first six batters faced before mowing down three-straight batters and fanning her seventh batter in the fifth inning.
The Lady Indians' bats churned out 19 hits with Katelynn Downey (Liberty, MO) going four-for-four with a walk while driving in four runs and scoring two more while Katrina Wilson (Oxford) and Autumn Bonner (Fayette, AL) both went three-for-four with a walk.
No perfect game comes without defensive help. Sophomore right fielder Cara Hopper (Caledonia) opened the game by making a long-running catch in shallow right and Downey made a ranging catch deep in the hole at second to end the contest and preserve Hardy's perfect day.
Maddy Lukens (Saltillo) and Arriann Henry (Ecru) each had a pair of hits in the win.
Hardy's perfect game was the first since former NJCAA All-Region 23 selection Chelsea Lukens' (Saltillo) perfect outing in April 2011 against Coahoma.
ICC improved to 15-6 and 7-1 in the North while Coahoma fell to 0-9 and 0-7 in division play.
Before the game, Geneva Bonner of Berry, AL - grandmother of sophomore catcher Autumn Bonner - threw out the first pitch in conjunction with the Lady Indians' Breast Cancer Awareness Series. She was diagnosed with stage one breast cancer in August of 1992 and is a 22.5 year survivor.
