
Five-run fifth powers Lady Indians past Holmes

GOODMAN, MS – With the game tied at one, the Itawamba Community College Lady Indians exploded for five runs to pick up the 8-2 game two win and complete the sweep of Holmes Community College.
The Lady Indians (12-5, 5-1 MACJC North) sent nine batters to the plate in the top of the fifth that created a deficit too large for the Lady Bulldogs to overcome.
Back-to-back hits by Courtney Roberts (Hatley) and Katrina Wilson (Oxford) jump started the big inning and a Katelynn Downey (Liberty, MO) double to left put the Lady Indians back on top.
Sacrifices by Maddy Lukens (Saltillo), Haley Moore (Boonevile) and Cara Hopper (Caledonia) plated three additional runs and Laken Shankle (Bruce) drove in the final run of the inning with her single to left.
The Lady Indians tacked on two insurances runs in the final two frames propelling them to victory and the division sweep on the road.
Cassidy Hardy (Gordo, AL) picked up her fourth win of the season in four innings of work.
The Lady Indians will step out of division play Wednesday as they travel to Decatur, AL for a twin bill against Calhoun Community College. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
