
Lady Indians come up short in extra-inning pitching duel, 4-3

BOONEVILLE, MS - An heroic-like effort from Alyssa Vanlandingham kept the Lady Indians' bats in check allowing the Lady Tigers to grab a walk-off 4-3 win to earn a split with the Lady Indians as the sun set on Booneville City Park.
Cara Hopper (Caledonia) pitched a gem only to end up on the hook for a tough-luck loss at the end of the day.
Hopper entered with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and struck out seven and walking one against 16 batters faced over four innings.
Northeast had the game-winning run in scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings but Hopper got out of the jam with a strikeout and pop out to end both innings.
The Lady Indians struck first when Moore reached on an error and scored on a sac fly by Hopper in the top of the first and added a second run in the second inning when Laken Shankle (Bruce) singled and scored on a single by Maddy Lukens (Saltillo).
Northeast answered with runs in the bottom of the first and second innings before taking its first lead of the day in the bottom of the third on two-out single by Haley Christian.
Trailing 3-2, Sheneria Tyes (Baldwyn) tied the game when she scored on a single by Moore in the top of the fifth inning.
Chelsea Gates reached on an error and stole second before scampering home on a two-out bloop single fisted off the bat of Yasmeen Cooper to give the Lady Tigers the walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth.
The Lady Indians left six runners on the bags with four of those stranded in the final three innings of play.
Bradley had a trio of singles with Moore, Shankle, Lukens, Arriann Henry (Ecru) and Katrina Wilson (Oxford) each had a single to round out the Lady Indians' eight hits in the loss.
The Lady Indians are scheduled to return to action when they travel to Senatobia to continue North Division play against Northwest Mississippi Community College (4-2, 2-0 MACJC North) on Tuesday.
