FULTON, Miss – After winning game one of the doubleheader in extra innings, the Lady Indians knew game two would be a battle, but they overcame an early deficit to pick up the 10-7 win and the sweep.
Co-Lin scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Lady Indians answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on a RBI double by game one hero Courtney Roberts (Hatley) and Laken Shankle (Bruce) reaching on a fielder's choice that drove in a run.
The teams exchanged runs in the fourth inning and the Lady Wolves tied the game at four in the top of the fifth. However, the Lady Indians took advantage of two bases loaded errors to score three runs and take a 7-4 lead.
The Lady Wolves made it a one run game in the top of the sixth by driving in two runs, but a double play turned by Haley Moore (Booneville), Kaitlyn Bradley (New Hope) and Autumn Bonner (Fayette, AL) ended the inning and preserved the lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Indians added three insurance runs on RBI singles by Arriann Henry (North Pontotoc) and Moore and a sacrifice fly by Bonner. Despite the Lady Wolves' plating one in the final frame, the lead was enough for the Lady Indians to pick up the win and the sweep giving freshman pitcher Cassidy Hardy (Gordo, AL) the win in her first collegiate start.
The game two win gave head coach Andy Kirk his 104th win to make him the all-time winningest coach in ICC Softball history.
The Lady Indians will face their first road test of the season Monday, February 9 when they travel to Raymond for a doubleheader with the Hinds Lady Eagles. Game one is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by game two at 3 p.m.
