Lady Indians drop a heartbreak in MACJC State Softball Tournament

For the second time in three years Pearl River used a seventh inning rally to eliminate the ICC Lady Indians in the opening round of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Softball Tournament.

The No. 17 Lady Indians (33-11) took a 2-1 lead before Pearl River (21-21) rallied for three runs after back-to-back squeeze plays to take a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the final frame.

A solo shot to center by Courtney Dawson on the first pitch of the bottom of the seventh made it a 4-3 contest before ICC put runners on first and second when the Lady Bobcats intentionally walked Jessi Patterson, who is amongst the nation's leaders in home runs, to lead the bases with two outs.

Patterson hit her 13th homer of the season in the sixth to give the Lady Indians a one-run lead and scored the game's first run on a single by Lindsay Richardson in the fourth.

The Lady Indians will now play wait-and-see on what seed they will be in next week's NJCAA Region 23 Tournament in Clinton.
