MERIDIAN, MS – The Itawamba Community College men's tennis program started the 2015 campaign against some stiff competition in No. 5 Seminole State College out of Oklahoma.
The Indians (0-1) are nationally ranked in the preseason polls as well at 20, but the top five Trojans were too much for ICC, winning 9-0.
Mark Robbins (New Albany) gave the Indians their best chance at picking up a match as he battled with Nick Bell. Robbins forced the showdown to go to the tie breaker but ended up falling just short, 6-3, 5-7, 10-8.
Nathaniel Pinkney (Southaven) and Cody Coins (Millington, TN) gave the Torjans a battle in doubles actions but Guy Iradukunda and Bell pulled away to capture the 8-6 win.
The Indians hope to rebound tomorrow when they face No. 13 Marion Military Institute at 2 p.m.
