
Indians take rematch of nationally ranked foes

FULTON, MS – The No. 19 Itawamba Community College Indians wrapped up its home matches section of the schedule on Wednesday when they hosted No. 16 Meridian Community College.
The Indians (8-2) went out with a bang in their final home match, defeating the Eagles for the second time this season, 5-4 and extending their win streak to eight.
Meridian jumped out to an early lead on the Indians as they swept the doubles side of competition, but it wasn't without a fight. Nathaniel Pinkney (Southaven) and Cody Coins (Millington, TN) battled but came up just short, losing 9-8 (5) to Shane Trebisky and Chris Mallete.
Trebisky started singles action with a win over Pinkney, but the Indians rallied to win the next five to pick up the win.
Austin McElwain (Corinth) defeated Mallete 6-3, 6-3 for the Indians first win of the day and Coins followed with a 6-1, 6-3 win.
Drew Ballard (Tupelo) and Mark Robbins (New Albany) both picked up 6-0, 6-1 wins to tie the contest, but David McElwain (West Point) gave the Indians the win with his 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The Indians will wrap up the regular season with a weekend road trip to take on Jones County Junior College on Friday and No. 17 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
