ELLISVILLE, MS – Mother Nature almost prevented the No. 19 Itawamba Community College Indians and Jones County Junior College from playing on Friday, but the rain held off long enough for the Indians to pick up their ninth straight win.
The rain cut the match short, preventing two matches from being completed, but the Indians (9-2) won every one that was completed to win 7-0.
It was a clean sweep in doubles action with the Indians winning 8-2, 8-3 and 8-1. Mark Robbins (New Albany) and Joseph Summers (Amory) highlighted the three doubles wins with their 8-1 win and both went on to take their singles matches as well.
Robbins wrapped up his 6-3, 6-1 singles win right before the rain began to fall and Ballard defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-0.
Cody Coins (Millington, TN) was able to get his match in prior to the weather even though he need a tie breaker to do so. Coins won the first set 6-4, but fell 3-6 in the second, forcing a 10-point tie breaker. In the tie breaker, Coins wasted little time and defeated Eric Swisher 10-0 to take the match.
The Indians will take their nine game winning streak farther south on Saturday to finish the regular season with a matchup against No. 17 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at 2 p.m.
