FULTON, MS – The Holmes Community College baseball team scored seven runs in the opening frame on their way to a 12-6 game one win over Itawamba Community College on Wednesday.
The Bulldogs added to their big lead in the second and sixth innings to hold a 11-0 lead over the Indians. In the bottom of the seventh, the Indians (16-17, 12-13 MACJC) prevented the mercy rule from coming into play by batting around to plate four runs on four hits.
Sophomore Tanner Poole (Amory), who finished 3-for-5, drove in the Indians' first run on a double in the gap and Russ Johnson (Hatley) drove in Poole with his single to right to cut the lead to nine. Cody Young (Collierville, TN) reached on an error later in the inning to score Timothy Rowe (Hernando).
Poole drove in his second run of the contest in the eighth, but the early deficit was too much for the Indians to overcome.
Logan Brown (Fulton) made his first appearance of the season as he threw three and a third innings of relief allowing six hits, one run and struck out three.
