
Indians rebound to earn split with Mineral Area

FULTON, MS - ICC rebounded to pick up an 8-6 win over Mineral Area Community College (MO) in the second game of a Sunday afternoon doubleheader.
Nick Brooks (Starkville) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, a RBI and a run scored while Hayden Williams (Amory) went 2-for-3 with a 2RBI, a walk and scored a run to help Tucker Akin (Ridgeland) pick up his first win of the season.
The Indians (3-1, 0-0 MACJC North) got off to a good start pushing across a pair of runs when Ethan Gill (Pontotoc) reached on an error and Bryce Williams (Ridgeland) lifted a sac fly to right field in the bottom of the first.
The Cardinals' (3-1) bats came to life to plate six runs in the top of third inning to take a 6-2 lead, but the Indians answered with 5 runs to retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Gill led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch and advanced on a single by Tanner Poole (Amory) before scoring on another single by Bryce Williams. Poole scored on a one-out double by Brooks and Bryce Williams tied the game 6-5 game in favor of the Cardinals when he scored on a two-out single by Hayden Williams before Luke Gibbs (Oxford) followed with a single to plate Brooks and Hayden Williams.
The Indians added an insurance run in the bottom of the fourth when Poole scored on a bases loaded walk issued to Hayden Williams.
Akin picked up his first collegiate win in relief of CJ Hodges (Winona).
