GALLATIN, TN – In their second road test of the week, the Indians overcame a 14-point deficit but had the game slip away at the end, falling 83-81.
In the first half, the Indians (5-8, 1-1) kept the game close but trailed 44-38 at the break and saw the Pioneers extend their lead early in the second half. Several Indians got into foul trouble, but great play from the bench allowed the Indians to mount a comeback and take the lead with 2:50 remaining on a Tyrone Wooten (Memphis, TN) layup.
The Pioneers quickly regained the lead, but the Indians managed to force a turnover and Wooten raced toward the basket and made the layup. However, an offensive foul called behind the play negated the go ahead basket.
Dee Gates (Baldwyn) put the Indians back on top with 39 ticks left on the clock, but the Pioneers drove down the court hitting a layup and drawing a foul for the three point play. After a fail scoring attempt, the Indians had a chance to pick up the win as Lakee Westbrook (Shannon) stole the ball at half court with under 10 seconds remaining. Westbrook's long 3-point shot fell just short of the basket allowing the Pioneers to hold on to pick up the 83-81 win.
Wooten led the Indians with 22-points followed by Austin Timms (Mooreville) with 12-points and Lakee Westbrook (Shannon) who chipped in 11-points.
The Indians return home and to North Division play on Monday as the face Holmes at 8 p.m. The game will be live streamed on LetsGoICC.com and can be heard on FM95 (95.7) and FM95radio.com with the Davis Ford Pregame show beginning at 5:40 p.m.
