TUSCALOOSA, AL – When the Indians and Bucs square off it is always a battle, but Shelton State was able to fend off ICC to pick up the 83-76 win.
The Indians (3-4) got off to a slow start but kept the game close trailing by only 9-points, 36-27, at the break. Early in the second half, the Bucs (7-0) put together some big runs to extend their lead to 21-points.
Even though they trailed, the Indians rallied to pull within 5-points. Dee Gates (Baldwyn) and Lakee Westbrook (Shannon) hit three consecutive 3-pointers to cut the lead to 81-76 late in the contest. The Indian defense forced the Bucs to turn the ball over, but the officials ruled the ball was out of bounds on ICC, keeping possession in favor of the Bucs.
The Indians battled the undefeated Bucs until the final buzzer, but the big second half deficit was too much to overcome and the dropped the road game 83-76.
Tyrone Wooten (Memphis, TN) led the Indians with 20-points, followed by Howard Thomas (Brandon) with 16-points. Westbrook added 12-points and Gates finished 11-points.
The Indians will begin North Division play Thursday night when they host Coahoma at the Davis Event Center. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
