Indians defeat Coahoma to open MACJC North play

Fresh off their 80-73 upset victory over No. 20 Shelton State on Monday, the ICC Indians defeated Coahoma 84-80 behind a 22-point performance from freshman Anthony McDonald (Aberdeen) and double-double night from fellow freshman Tre Wells (Tuscaloosa, AL) who scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

"This was a big win for us for a lot of reasons," said ICC head coach Marty Cooper. "Mainly it's always important to win at home in division play, but it was also good to follow our big win on Monday with another important win to avoid an emotional letdown and continue to build our confidence heading into the Christmas break."

Quintin Lee (Ripley, TN) scored 13 while Tyrone McNeese (Macon) added 11 in the victory to help the Indians improve to 3-5 on the season and 1-0 in the MACJC North.

McDonald scored a game-high 23 points with Lee and Wells added 14 each in the Indians 7-point upset victory over No. 20 Shelton State.

The Lady Indians improved to 6-2, 1-0 on the year with a 69-59 win over Coahoma in the first game of the night.

Sophomore point guard Precious Naylon (Eutaw, AL) scored a game-high 18 points while sophomores Vechatita Bonner (Waynesboro) and Jameika Hoskins (Aberdeen) turned in double-double performances with Bonner scoring 17 points and grabbing 13 rebounds while Hoskins netted 11 points and 11 rebounds.

"We didn't play our best game of the season, but I thought this game showed a lot of the character and fight on our team," said ICC head coach Nanci Gray. "When things didn't seem to want to go our way they battled through it instead of letting it get to them and I thought that really spoke volumes on what type of team we can be this season."
