FULTON, MS - The Lady Indians defeated the Holmes Community College Lady Indians, 9-0, in their second match of the season.

ICC (2-0) claimed swept doubles play with No. 1 doubles duo Jordan Roberts (Shannon) and Ivy Robbins (Pontotoc) gained a 8-2 win over Allie Fudge and Kaylan Cooper. Madison Scott (Mooreville) and Kacey Byrd (Mooreville) defeated Brenda Arviza and Ashleigh Pope 8-1 in No. 2 doubles play while Meredith Lee (Nettleton) and Andria Barnes (Mooreville) completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory in No. 3 play over Brittany Graham and Savanna Bell.

"I'm really proud of how our sophomores are being leaders to help our freshmen adjust to the collegiate level of play," said Coach Paul Johnson. "Hopefully, they will be able to continue to grow as players with the more experience they get under their belts."

ICC completed the sweep Holmes by claiming the six possible points after only dropping one set in singles competition behind Roberts, Barnes, Scott, and Lee's straight set victories.

Roberts defeated Fudge in No. 1 singles, Barnes took care of Cooper in No. 2 singles, in No. 3 play Scott topped Arvizu before Lee bettered Bell in the No. 6 singles match.

In No. 3 singles, Byrd rallied from dropping the opening set 5-7 to take the second set 6-2 before earning the point with a 10-7 tiebreaker.

"It's good to get another win," said Johnson. "I was proud of Kacey being able to shake off dropping her first set to be able to fight through a tight match to get the win."

Robbins, in her first singles match of the season, took the first set 6-2 before earning the point after a forfeit by Graham ended the No. 5 singles match.

The Lady Indians will return to the court with back-to-back matches on Friday, March 4 at Hinds Community College and Saturday March 5 at Copiah-Lincoln Community College.
