WESSON, MS - The Lady Indians opened their back-to-back MACJC championship defense in impressive fashion with a 8-1 win over Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Friday.

The Lady Indians (1-0) swept through doubles play with No. 1 duo Kristen Eley (Mumford, TN) and Taylor Patterson (Olive Branch) netting an 8-4 win over Courtney Watts and Melody Smith, No. 2 Anna Claire Griffin (Iuka) and Amber Frederick (Shannon) defeated Savannah Brister and Allie Dear 8-3 and No. 3 tandem of Angela Hudson (Yazoo) and Aliesha Hudson (Yazoo) battled their way to an 8-6 victory over Caroleah Brister and Carly Riley.

Singles play proved to be a battle with four of the six mathces matches going to extra sets.

Eley defeated Watts 6-1; 6-0 in No. 1 singles and Aliesha Hudson picked up a 6-3; 6-1 win over Caroleah Brister in No. 6 play.

No. 2 Patterson notched an 7-4 win to break a 6-6 tie in the first set before winning her second 6-4 over Rachel Farmer. Frederick battled back after dropping her opening set 1-6 to pick up 7-5 and 10-8 wins over Allie Dear in No. 4 play before Angela Hudson defeated Ericka Dear 6-2 and 10-5 after dropping the opening set of No. 5 play 4-6.

Co-Lin's lone win of the day came when Savannah Brister defeated Griffin 6-3; 3-6; 10-7 in No. 3 play.
