Fulton, Miss. - With their upset win over No. 18 Pearl River Saturday, the Itawamba Community College volleyball program punched its ticket to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Gulf District Tournament for the second year in a row.
This year's NJCAA Gulf District Tournament will be held a Florida Gateway College in Lake City, Fla. and will be a seven-team double elimination tournament starting Nov. 4 and wrapping up Nov. 6.
The Indians (19-10) are the No. 6 seed as the Region 23 representative and the lone Mississippi team. Of the six Florida teams, two are ranked in the NJCAA Top 20, No. 8 St. Johns River State and No. 17 Lake-Sumter.
For the Indians, their first match will be against Pensacola State (16-5) Thursday at 11:30 a.m. (EST). The Indians and the Pirates have one common opponent this season in Northwest Mississippi Community College. In those matches, the Indians took two wins from Northwest while the Pirates won their only meeting over the Rangers.
With a win Thursday, the Indians would then face the winner of No. 17 Lake-Sumter and Gulf Coast State Thursday night at 6 p.m. (EST), while a loss would have them matched up with the loser of the same game Friday morning at 9 a.m. (EST). Click here for full list of games
Also competing this year are Palm Beach State and Florida State College at Jacksonville who will open the tournament Thursday at 9 a.m. (EST).
