FULTON, MS - Coach Sean Cannon announced 11 of the 16 players eligible to transfer during the NCAA mid-term signing period did so on Wednesday.

"We measure success in more than just wins and losses," said Cannon. "We strive to help our players not only be successful on the field, but we want to help them to continue being successful long after their football careers are over and that starts in the classroom."

Defensively, the Indians had six players sign on opening day.

Defensive back Quinton Lane (Ackerman) signed with South Alabama; defensive end Larry Jefferson (College Park, GA) signed with West Virginia; linebacker Myles Harges (Grenada) signed with Middle Tennessee; linebacker and former NJCAA Defensive Player of the Week Devan Gilleylen (Shannon) signed with Faulkner; defensive back and 2014 Bennie Abram LEGACY Award recipient Sharone Wright (Houston) signed with Mississippi College; and linebacker Benny McCall (Horn Lake) signed with Delta State.

"Really proud of our defensive guys," said Cannon, who is also the team's defensive coordinator. "They are leaving some big shoes to fill for next season, but have really raised the bar of expectations on the defensive side of the ball during their two years here at ICC."

Offensively, ICC had five player sign to take their game to the next level.

JCGridiron's No. 17 wide receiver in the nation Jacquez McMillian (Southaven) signed with Central Arkansas; offensive lineman Joseph Bacchus (Southaven) signed with Arkansas State; running back Anfernee Brand (Houston) signed with Mississippi College; offensive lineman Joel Forrester (Oxford) signed with Tennessee Tech; and freshman running back Richard McQuarley (Meridian) signed with New Mexico.

"I'm just proud of our guys," said Coach Nick Coleman. "It's a testament to not only what they do on the field, but also what they do in the classroom."

Last season, the ICC football team led the MACJC in mid-term signings.

"Anytime you can sign out over 90 percent of your guys at midyear just shows not only what you're doing on the field is the right thing, but also what you're doing off the field is the right thing," said Coleman.

ICC has been the starting point for 72 football players that have signed to continue their careers as student-athletes over the past five seasons.
