Clay helped guide the Indians to a 41-16 record while winning the program’s third-straight MACJC North Division title and the NJCAA Region 23 Championship and were two wins shy of appearing in the World Series as a sophomore (05).
Gibbs (Oxford) earned MACJC All-State second team honors after batting .331 with 23 RBI on 10 doubles, 2 doubles, and 2 home runs while stealing 8 bases to go along with his .445 slugging and .488 on-base percentages.
Coach Rick Collier announced the Indians’ Baseball Showcase for upcoming high school seniors and juniors will be Wednesday, July 30th at historic Roy Cresap Field on the Fulton Campus.
“It means a lot to me to be able to sign with a team that’s where I’m from,” said Bowman. “I would always go to Memphis baseball games and now I get to play on the field that I grew up watching people play on is a really big honor.”
Tupelo’s Ben Aldridge (3.69 GPA) earned the NJCAA Exemplary Academic Achievement Award and was named MACJC Academic All-State along with fellow sophomore Drew Wheeler (3.53) of Mooreville.
"Dakota is a guy who went to one of our tryouts and really caught our eye with his workout," Collier commented. “I’ve also seen him play several games and he’s a guy who can come in and help us right away."
“It’s a great feeling,” Aldridge said about signing with the Boll Weevils. “Everybody wants to come in and earn the opportunity to keep playing and I’m happy to have the opportunity to keeping playing.”
The tryout will only be open to graduating seniors that were not able to make it to or did not participate in the May tryout. Participants interested in trying out are responsible for bringing a current physical or a signed note from their high school coach saying that you have an up-to-date physical.
Itawamba Community College will be the site for the 2014 State Games of Mississippi District One baseball tryouts on Wednesday, June 4.
Five Indians were named to the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State teams when the league announced the awards on Wednesday.
In Game 2, Luke Gibbs (Oxford) and Austin Welch (Hamilton) gave the Indians a 6-0 with a pair of triples before Ethan Gill (Pontotoc) scored on a bases loaded walk issued to Tanner Poole (Amory) capped off an eight-run second inning.
The ICC baseball team have been looking for a spark to turn their season around and they may have found it after a 4-1 Game 2 victory over the nation’s No. 1 team Jones County Junior College on Saturday.
The Indians (14-10, 4-4 MACJC North) were scheduled to travel to Scooba to take on No. 5 East Mississippi Community College on Saturday, but will now hit the road for a twin bill against the Lions (19-7, 6-2 MACJC North) starting at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The Indians suffered a pair of home division loses to Mississippi Delta on Saturday.
Chambley didn't disappoint his supporters as he dominated the Bulldog batters by striking out nine, allowed two earned runs on seven hits and one walk to pick up the win in a complete game effort.
