
Fayette, Ala. – The Itawamba Community College volleyball program finished its August section of the schedule undefeated with a 3-0 victory over Bevill State Community College, Tuesday.
Despite winning the straight sets, the Indians (5-0) had to battle to defeat the hosting Bears. The Indians won the first set, 25-23, after trialing late in the set.
It was all Indians in the second set as they cruised to a 25-12 win. In the third set, the Bears rallied from down 21-13 to extend the match past 25, but the Indians went on to take the set, 26-24.
The contest was a team effort as almost every Indian contributed to the 57 digs, 29 kills, 28 assists and 11 service aces.
Sarah Allyn Thornell (Atoka, Tenn.) led the Indians with a team-high 12 assists, 10 kills and 13 digs.
Kailynn Johnson (Olive Branch) added 10 digs, and Kathryn Cooke (Amory) had a team-high four service aces.
Next up for the Indians is a road contest against Mississippi University for Women in Columbus Sept. 6 at 5 p.m., before returning to the friendly confines of the Davis Event Center the next night against Pearl River Community College at 5 p.m.
