Bio
Michael Metz
Head Men’s & Women’s Tennis Coach
Michael Metz has served as head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Itawamba Community College since 2016. His extensive tennis coaching career includes positions as volunteer assistant and assistant coach at Mississippi State University (1998–2006), head men’s tennis coach at Birmingham Southern College (2002–2003), and director of tennis at Magnolia Tennis Club and Tupelo Tennis Academy. He also held roles as private coach and head pro at local tennis clubs prior to joining ICC.
Metz’s coaching highlights include leading ICC to second place in the MACCC Men’s Tennis Championship and coaching two players to NJCAA National Singles Quarterfinal finishes, including All-American Franco Roldan.
As a player, Metz competed professionally in USTA Futures events in 1999 and was a member of a top-ten NCAA team at Mississippi State University for five years. His collegiate achievements include an undefeated doubles record at the 1998 NCAA Team Championship semifinal, the 1996 Southeastern Conference Team Tournament championship, and multiple NCAA team quarterfinal and semifinal appearances.
He was honored as the 2005 ITA Southeast Assistant Coach of the Year and the 2024 ITA Region III Coach of the Year.
Metz is married to Tammi Metz, and they have three children: Parker, Warren, and Livi.
