The 2013 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior College (MACJC) Champion Itawamba Community College women's tennis program added a new face to the 2013-14 roster in the signee of Anna Claire Griffin of Tishomingo County High School
The Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Champion Lady Indians earned a spot amongst the nation’s Top 20 coming in at No. 17, which is the highest ranking of any MACJC school in the poll.
“This is a great honor for all the hard work and dedication these student-athletes put into their academic careers here at ICC,” said Ball-Williamson. “A lot of people don’t realize how much work and how many hours go into being a success in the classroom and in the sports they play.”
“We are well-known for our outstanding athletic programs here at ICC and a large part of that success can be traced back to our coaches stressing the importance of excellence in the classroom,” said Ball-Williamson. “When a student-athlete does what it takes to perform at a high level in the classroom that same type of hard work and dedication shows in their respective sports.”

The back-to-back-to-back state champion Lady Indians will have little time to enjoy their trip to Arizona as all seven ladies making the trip to The Copper State will be in action on the first day of the 2013 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Women’s Tennis National Championship tournament at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson.
No. 1 Amy Evans, No. 3 Anna-Blair Hunt, No. 4 Bianca Stephens, No. 5 Theresa Jackson win individual championships as the Lady Indians lock up their third-straight MACJC State Championship before entering Doubles play.
Itawamba Community College takes 27 points into Championship Saturday with Jones (24) and Co-Lin (21) still in the chase for the 2013 Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) State Championship.

“The girls came out with a lot of focus and determination compared to yesterday,†said ICC head tennis coach Paul Johnson. “They had a refuse-to-lose attitude and really did a good job of feeding off each other’s momentum throughout the day.â€
“It was just one of those days that the breaks seemed to be going against the girls,†said ICC tennis coach Paul Johnson. “Give credit where credit is due Jones did a great job coming out focused and ready to play, but with it being our first match of the year I was pleased with how we started the season against one of the state’s best teams.â€
Evans and Downing will compete in the USTA/ ITA Small College National Championships October 11-14 at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, AL.
