Fulton, Miss. – The Itawamba Community College women's soccer program took No. 17 Mineral Area College to the limit and beyond Sunday before dropping a 3-2 decision in overtime.
Beth Lloyd (Failsworth, England) gave the Lady Indians (1-1) an early advantage with a goal at the eighth minute off an assist from Emma Logan (Fulton).
Mineral Area netted the equalizer just before halftime and took a 2-1 lead at the 63rd minute.
As the game continued, the weather quickly changed from a sunny day to heavy rain. As the rain began to fall, Brianna Huckaby (Saltillo) put a long shot on net that beat the keeper and tied the game at 2-2 with 20 minutes left in regulation.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, the game entered a lightning delay that lasted an hour. In the final minutes of regulation, neither team could net the game winner, forcing the Lady Indians' first overtime this season.
Both teams had chances in overtime, but Mineral Area took advantage of a free kick and scored the golden goal at the 95th minute.
The Lady Indians' game at Oakwood University scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled, so next up for the Tribe is a road game Friday at Southwest Tennessee at 7 p.m.
