FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College women's soccer team was honored as the 2015-16 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Team of the Year in Women's Soccer when the league announced its yearly honorees.


The team finished the school year with an impressive 3.78 grade point average (GPA) which was third best amongst the national academic team of the year honorees. 

Members of the 2015 squad include: Hannah Anderson (New Albany); Macy Aycock (Southaven); Hope Burton (Caledonia); Emily Buster (Prattville, AL); Katie Foshee (Southaven); Jessica Geraldson (Olive Branch); Karlee Grisham (Pontotoc); Noa Hardin (Starkville); Kate Hester (Pontotoc); Breauna Holley (Pontotoc); Summer Jensen (Pontotoc); Kelsey McKnatt (Fulton); Haley Merrell (Olive Branch); Megan Moorhead (Starkville); Caroline Mueller (New Albany); Madison Parham (Mooreville); Alyssa Park (Corinth); Alyssa Stanford (Tupelo); Rachel Stukenborg (Long Beach); Shannon Sullivan (Fulton); and Coach David Strother. 

The Lady Indians earned the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year award for the 2013-14 season with a 3.52 GPA.

The honor is presented to the team with the highest GPA in each NJCAA sanctioned sport. The minimum team GPA requirement for consideration is a 3.00. 

The women's tennis team finished second with a 3.80 GPA while the men's soccer team had the third best GPA in the country with a 3.25. The Indian softball team ranked sixth with a 3.60 GPA and the men's tennis team earned the seventh best mark in the country with its 3.31 GPA. Baseball, women's basketball and golf also earn honorable mention NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors.  

Since 1993, the NJCAA has recognized the team with the highest overall grade-point average for their sport and gender with the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Award. Teams that qualify with an overall grade-point average of at least a 3.0 receive honorable mention recognition. Nominations are submitted by each team's respective institution.
