
FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College's softball team has moved up to No. 17 in this week's National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II Top 25 rankings, according to an announcement on Monday.
Last week, the Indians split against then-No. 20 Gulf Coast on Tuesday with an 11-3 five-inning win in game one and a 3-2 loss in game two. To cap the week, ICC earned a split with top-ranked Jones with a 6-5 game one victory but dropped game two, 10-4.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Carson Owens, the Indians currently have a 19-6 overall record, and 4-2 in MACCC play.
Maddie Porter currently leads ICC with a .426 batting average followed by AB Marlar and Taylar Shands, each with .397. Shands leads the team with eight home runs so far this season.
The Indians will be back in action on Wednesday, March 19, when they host Holmes for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Andy Kirk Field.
