Softball takes Game 1 over Northeast, 8-0

BOONEVILLE, MS - The Indians' bats came to life late in the game to give Katlin McDuffy (Iuka) run support in their 8-0 Game 1 road victory over Northeast on Monday.
ICC took an 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs) scored on a wild pitch.
Addie Thompson (Hamilton), Alex Brown (Pontotoc) and Taylor Thornton (Carrollton) each scored runs in the top of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, respectively.
The Indians put the game away with a four-run seventh inning.
Thomposon scored on an throwing error on a squeeze bunt by Sheneria Tyes (Baldwyn) to give the Indians a 5-0 lead before Lane Kennedy (Smithville) scored on a single to right by Thornton. Tyes scored when Taylor Blevins (Columbus) reached on a bunt single. Thornton added the inning's fourth run on groundout by Autry.
Brown went three-for-three with a walk and a run scored while Kennedy and Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus) each added a pair of hits to help the Indians improve to 17-3 overall and 2-1 in division play.
McDuffy gave up five hits and one walk while striking out five in the complete game shutout victory to move to 7-1 on the year.
