FULTON, MS - The ICC softball team used a nine-run second inning to make quick work of its 13-0 run-rule victory over the Hinds Community College Eagles on Saturday.
ICC (5-3) got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Alex Brown (Pontotoc) was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a single by Kaitlin Bradley (Columbus).
Hinds put runners on first and second, but Cassidy Hardy (Gordo, AL) worked out of the jam by inducing an inning-ending grounder back to the circle.
Bree Thompson (Water Valley) got the second inning going with a lead-off single followed by a single from Maura Jane Autry (Holly Springs) and a walk issues to Mary Kansas Sullivan (Houston) to load the bases. Lane Kennedy (Smithville) ripped two-run single to plate Thompson and Autry to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.
The Eagles picked up the second out of the inning and the wheels got rolling for the Indians.
Bradley drove in Taylor Thornton (Carrollton), running for Sullivan, and Kennedy. Bradley advanced on a throwing error and stole third before scoring on a single by Addie Thompson (Hamilton). Bree Thompson followed with a single and Katie Channell (Vicksburg) was hit by a pitch to load the bases again for the Indians.
Autry ripped a single to push across Mamie Hollenhead (Mathiston) and Sullivan looped a single over the first baseman's head to score a pair of runs and give ICC a 10-0 lead before Hinds could get out of the inning.
Hardy continued to keep the Eagles' bat silent in the top of the third inning and the Indians picked up two more runs in the bottom of the inning when Brown scored on a ground out by Hollenhead and Bradley came across when Bree Thompson reached on an error.
Sheneria Tyes (Baldwyn) walked to start the bottom of the fourth and scored when Bradley drove in her fourth run of the game on a ground out to first.
The Indians had 12 hits in the victory with Brown, Bradley, Bree Thompson, and Autry all having a pair of hits.
Hardy improved to 1-1 on the season after giving up three hits over four innings of scoreless softball.
